Today the other bacteria and I gathered in the gut of the flea we've been inhabiting for the past few days. We've been producing and using the proteins Hms and Ymt. These proteins help us survive the hostile environment of the flea's digestive tract, and and move along to a mammalian host.
Although we are a deadly bacterium (the bacterial disease we cause has a survival rate in mammals is 50%) fleas are resistant to us, so they act as a carrier. We can live in them without killing them, or them killing us. So, today's been a slow day, and hopefully we're in for bigger and more exciting things tomorrow!
